medicine bow

this is not my photo. mine are still on my phone. i have a cord (somewhere) to retrieve photos off it--but who knows where..most of my life is currently in a 5x8 storage unit.

anyway, i finally got out to the medicine bow mountains today! and they're stunning, fantastic and still covered in snow. i actually went to the spot where this photo was taken, except it was much snowier than that today, and much colder i'd presume. it was warm when i left town (70s) so i wore shorts and a t-shirt. bad plan. it was in the 40s in the mountains.

anyway, i finally decided to hike a great trail, bordering the river, at the bottom of the mountain range. it was so fun: tall pines everywhere, a rushing river (that I badly want to kayak, but am probably not good enough to), lots of birds and little animals. and i only saw one other person my whole time out. granted, i still can't walk very far, so it was a short time out.

it felt a bit like norway at times, and a bit like the porkies at other times--both places i really love. this is less than a hour from my door (37 miles to be exact) & it's crazy how little i go to these mountains. i did make a pact (with myself) that i would go to the mountains at least once a week this summer--preferably twice--and go hiking. and so far, i have. it's been awesome. i feel pretty lucky to live in the middle of a bunch of great mountain ranges. i'm also starting to wonder why people choose to live in places where there aren't mountains or woods or trees. hmm.. i guess i'll be doing that for a little while in missouri.

it's good to get outside. it reminds me what i love about the world.
