well, it's been two weeks and they did not find craig. they found traces that they think were his on the edge of a cliff. their guess is that he got lost, at night, & kept hiking, trying to get back to the trail--and just walked right off the edge, not knowing it was an edge. the bottom of the cliff's too dangerous to get to (it is a volcano), so they may never know for certain that this is what happened, but they think so enough to end the search. (& it's been two weeks--craig had no food or water with him.)
i had a class with craig last spring--i don't know him nearly as well as a lot of students in the mfa here, but i do have several of his books he loaned me for this year while he was gone & learned a lot from him, especially about setting up really good sentences (an important skill for writers). it's all very strange--we ended the semester friday and also got the craig news friday. such a weird, unfortunate way to close our cohort's final semester in the program.
in good blogging news, i had scans for cancer, also on friday (quite a day) and i'm clear on that front. hooray for that! we still don't know why i'm sick, but we're getting closer to some answers, it seems.
