platform bed and other home improvements

i'm finally (almost) settled in my new house. i have some pictures to hang and then i think i'm done. although i bet i'll never entirely be done. my new house is a great little old home with lots of character. being an old home, however, there are lots of minor things that need to be fixed. my dad already scraped all the peeling paint off the trim and we repainted that. and i caulked every single hole i could find (tons), repainted the living room, bathroom and part of my bedroom (half of it had a really horrible paint job.) i also touched up the entryway/back porch. i sprayed everything with spider spray (though i must spray again) and cleaned the whole house of spiders (every single corner, etc.). i repainted the bathroom ceiling too--whew, all in one weekend. it was a very busy weekend--but the house feels a whole lot cleaner and nicer now.

then today, i built a platform bed. as you all probably know, i really like doing any sort of fix it work and like to figure stuff out. i've never done any woodwork before (besides helping a friend redo some wood floors) but there was an old fence in the garage and some pieces from an old metal bed frame. anyway, a little sawing and piecing together later, i now have a single platform bed for my office. it's not the prettiest bed i've ever seen, but it does the job!

all of this, of course, is putting off what i actually should be doing: writing a syllabus, reading up for my classes, actually getting started on this new phd life.

i've lost my camera cords in the move. once i order some new ones, i'll post some photos.
